In Children and Family Services, that shows up in the work we do every day to support children and families across Nebraska.This position plays an important role in that work by determining eligibility for Title IV-E federal funding and state-funded programs. These decisions directly affect how services are funded for children in foster care, adoption, and guardianship.In this role, you’ll review case information, apply policy, and make decisions that help ensure services are funded correctly and consistently.Starting rate: $20.859/hour"You have the passion; we have the opportunities – let’s make a difference for Nebraskans!"What You’ll DoReview case information and determine eligibility for Title IV-E and state-funded programsSet up and maintain payment authorizations for foster care, adoption, and guardianship casesReview legal and case documentation to support eligibility decisionsDocument case activity clearly and accuratelyUse multiple systems to track and manage case informationWork with team members and partners to resolve questions or issuesManage a caseload with a focus on accuracy and timelinessIdentify and address issues that could impact eligibility or paymentsWhy This Work MattersHelps ensure children in out-of-home care have access to the supports they needSupports the funding that keeps child welfare programs runningContributes to consistency and stability for families across NebraskaWhat To ExpectThis is detailed, policy-based work that requires strong attention to detailYou’ll be managing multiple cases at different stages at the same timeAccuracy matters—this work connects to federal requirements and fundingA significant part of the role involves documentation and system navigationYou’ll work independently but also collaborate regularly with your teamWhat We’re Looking ForSomeone who is detail-oriented and comfortable working with complex informationAbility to think through situations and apply policy to real casesStrong organization and time management skillsClear communication, especially in writingComfort working across systems and learning new processesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamRequirements / QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: 24 semester hours of post high school education in behavioral sciences, public/business administration, social sciences, education or closely related field OR experience in customer service, determining eligibility for public assistance, examining/processing financial loan applications, medical or unemployment insurance or rehabilitation claims, unemployment services, OR a combination of education and experience in any of the above areas.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with eligibility determination, case management, or public assistance programsOther: Valid Driver's license is required.Knowledge Skills And AbilitiesAbility: Ability to interpret and apply policy or regulationsStrong attention to detail and ability to work with complex informationSkills: Organization and time management skills in a high-volume environmentClear written communication skills, especially for documentationExperience working in a Children and Family Services–related roleKnowledge: Experience using DHHS systems (NFOCUS, SharePoint, Monday.com)Prior experience in child welfare or human services systemsComfort navigating multiple systems and reconciling information across sourcesAbility to identify issues and problem-solve independentlyIf you're currently employed by the State of Nebraska, please don't apply through this external career site.
