Laboratory Assistant - Triage

Laboratory Assistant-Triage Schedule: Full-Time: Monday – Friday 2:00 pm- 10:30 pm. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the department and company. General Summary: Working at a state-of-the-art anatomic pathology laboratory the laboratory assistant is an essential position, triaging diagnostic specimens to the appropriate departments. Dahl-Chase Diagnostic Services receives hundreds of cases a day that need to have their identification verified and are to be distributed to the appropriate laboratory in a timely fashion. The laboratory assistant is expected to be detail oriented and focused on patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Retrieving specimens from Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center campus locations, as directed. Follows specimen retrieval protocols at each location Receives incoming specimens from our external clients Correctly matches the specimens to the requisition (name, DOB, specimens, etc.) Triages specimens to the appropriate departments Identifies problem cases that are to be submitted for resolution Correctly accessions specimens into the laboratory information system. Maintains a clean work area. Follows standard operating procedures and safety protocols in the laboratory. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to assist the other departments. Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor's degree in a science related field is preferred. The individual should have experience in general laboratory practice. Experience with Windows, with a typing proficiency of 40WPM Medical terminology background Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members. Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
