Mapping Drafter
Hunt, Guillot & Associates (HGA) is seeking a Mapping Drafter to support our Integrated Services team in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is responsible for producing, maintaining, and updating accurate mapping and spatial data to support utility, pipeline, power, and infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients across the Southeast. The Mapping Drafter will collaborate closely with GIS professionals, engineers, surveyors, and project managers to deliver high-quality mapping products that support planning, construction, operations, and asset management efforts across multiple industries served by HGA, including power and utilities, energy, government, and infrastructure. Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare, update, and maintain mapping and drafting deliverables using CAD, GIS, and related mapping platforms. Develop and revise as-built drawings, alignment sheets, plats, exhibits, and system maps for utility, pipeline, and infrastructure assets. Interpret field data, survey information, redlines, and client-provided datasets to ensure mapping accuracy and consistency. Coordinate with GIS analysts, survey teams, engineers, and project managers to meet project scope, schedule, and quality requirements. Ensure compliance with client standards, regulatory requirements, and HGA quality control procedures. Manage version control, file organization, and documentation in accordance with project and company standards. Assist with data conversion, georeferencing, and integration of legacy and newly collected spatial data. Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.Required QualificationsAssociate degree or technical training in Drafting, GIS, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience producing mapping or drafting deliverables in a utility, energy, surveying, or infrastructure environment. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map 3D, ArcGIS, or similar drafting/GIS software. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, survey data, and field markups. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality. Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines. Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting power, pipeline, telecommunications, or public infrastructure mapping projects. Familiarity with utility asset data, right-of-way exhibits, easement mapping, and as-built documentation. Experience working with client or municipal GIS standards and data schemas.
