The Company’s portfolio of core technology and products offer unique capabilities in the areas of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, cyber security as well as remote sensing applications.
Position Description
We are looking for a Reliability Test Engineer to define, build, and execute reliability validation strategies for next-generation photonic and quantum systems. This role is responsible for ensuring products are robust, repeatable, and production ready across environmental, mechanical, and operational conditions.
You will work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and quality to translate early-stage designs into field ready systems with predictable performance and lifetime.
Duties and Responsibilities
Own end-to-end reliability validation for photonic and quantum hardware systems
Develop and execute qualification plans aligned with product maturity (EVT/DVT/PVT to production)
Build reliability test plans tied to product architecture and use cases
Design test strategies for environmental, mechanical, and operational stress conditions
Build and automate reliability test setups (thermal, vibration, humidity, shock, long-duration testing)
Create Environmental and lifecycle test procedures (HALT, HASS, burn-in, accelerated aging)
Define acceptance criteria and pass/fail thresholds for system performance under stress
Identify failure modes, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions
Partner with design engineering to improve reliability through design-for-reliability (DfR) principles
Create Data pipelines for capturing, analyzing, and trending reliability data
Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure testability and production scalability
Establish reliability metrics (MTBF, failure rates, degradation trends) and track over lifecycle
Generate clear, data-driven reports to support design reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR) and leadership decisions
Create Qualification documentation aligned with ISO 9001 and production readiness standards
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
3+ years of experience in reliability testing, validation, or hardware qualification
Experience with environmental testing (thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, shock)
Strong understanding of failure modes and root cause analysis techniques
Experience working with complex hardware systems (optical, photonic, semiconductor, or precision systems preferred)
Basic programming skills. Able to code in C, C++, MATLAB/Octave, or Python.
Able to lift weights to OSHA limit (50 lbs.) when required (occasionally).
Excellent problem-solving skills, open-minded, and a keen attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), utilizing advanced features to streamline data analysis, create professional documents, and develop engaging presentations
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with photonic systems, optics, or quantum hardware
Familiarity with reliability standards (MIL-STD, Telcordia, or similar)
Experience with accelerated life testing and statistical reliability modeling
Hands-on experience building custom test setups and automation
Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality systems
Exposure to production environments and manufacturing readiness (MRL frameworks)
