Job Description
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.A rewarding opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students in a school setting located in Nebo, North Carolina. This contract position focuses on empowering visually impaired students, helping them develop the skills needed for safe and independent navigation within their environments.Key Responsibilities:Assess students orientation and mobility needs and develop individualized training plans.Teach students techniques for safe and effective travel, including the use of mobility aids.Collaborate with educators, families, and other professionals to support student progress.Monitor and document students development and adjust instructional strategies as needed.Promote independence and confidence in students through tailored orientation activities.Desired Qualifications:Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.Experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings.Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, and school staff.Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences.Commitment to fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for students.Location: Nebo, North CarolinaThis contract role offers a meaningful chance to make a difference in the lives of students by enhancing their mobility and independence.
