This is a fully remote position with a strong preference for living in the greater Syracuse, New York area. The Controller will work closely with financial leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and the integrity of financial data.Key Responsibilities:Project accounting management including invoicing and cost reconciliation.Accounts receivable monitoring and follow-up.Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances.Prepare project cost summaries on completed projects.Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.Maintain and improve accounting processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.Collaborate with departments across the organization on accounting and financial matters.Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards.Support ERP system enhancements and accounting automation initiatives.Support Hubspot (CRM package) finance and project customization.Mentor junior accounting staff as needed.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in accountingCPA certification.8 + years of experience with a minimum of 4 years of progressive corporate accounting experience.Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.Experience working with ERP systems.Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (ex. XLOOKUP, XMATCH, Conditional formatting, PivotTables and Pivot Charts, Summarization functions, and Power Query)Experience working with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization.Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities.Preferred Qualifications4 + years of public accounting experience on the audit side.Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA.Experience with Acumatica ERP and Velixo or other excel based reporting platform.Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, technology, or multi-entity organizations.Familiarity with financial reporting tools and business intelligence platforms.Ideal Candidate ProfileThe successful candidate is an initiative-taking accounting professional with a strong technical accounting background, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
