Job Title: Director of Elementary & Middle Learning Exemption Status: CertifiedReports to: SuperintendentDate Revised: 04/2026Dept./School: District AdministrationPrimary Purpose:Direct, manage, and supervise the district's elementary and middle school (Grades 3-8) curriculum and instruction department. Ensure that the development and delivery of curriculum and the instructional program is effective and efficient, incorporates district goals, and supports student achievement. Provide curriculum leadership and support to elementary and middle school teachers and administrators to ensure alignment to instructional programs in all relevant subject areas.Qualifications:Education/LicensureMaster's degree in educational administrationValid Tennessee teaching certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of elementary and middle school curriculum/instruction in all relevant subjectsStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsEthical and personal integrity.Ability to:Coordinate and lead elementary and middle school (Grades 3-8) learning in all subject areasInterpret data and evaluate instructional and operational effectivenessDevelop and implement policies and procedures related to elementary and middle school learningEffectively multitask and problem-solveEfficiently organize and document all work and communicationsCollaborate effectively with all stakeholders at all levelsUse technology for word processing, data management, presentations, and telecommunicationsExperience:3 years experience as a classroom teacher (required)3 years of experience in educational leadership roles (preferred) Major Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional and Operational ManagementServes as leader and general resource person in matters relating to elementary and middle school curriculum development and evaluation.Facilitates, implements, and assists with the development of standards-based curriculum for elementary and middle level content areas.Coordinates and implements elementary and middle school staff development programs.Coordinates the instructional program in a manner consistent with district priorities and goals.Reviews, researches, prepares, and disseminates information pertaining to trends in curriculum development, extended learning programs, and intervention programs.Analyzes, reports, and interprets student performance data and makes instructional recommendations.Coordinates the program of ongoing evaluation of curriculum and instruction at the elementary and middle level.Works with elementary and middle school principals in the continuing evaluation of programs to improve student achievement.Monitors vertical teaming at the elementary and middle level.Supervises, directs, coordinates, and/or assists with specially funded programs as assigned.Supervises, directs, coordinates and assists elementary and middle level Guidance Counselors.Monitors and collaborates with administrators and teachers on student growth.Coordinate school level spelling bees and winner advancement to state level.Policy and LawDevelops processes and timelines for the implementation of standards-based accountability to reflect local, state, and legislative directives.Develops, submits, and monitors plans and budgets for the operation of assigned programs and services.Assists with the coordination of the process of textbook evaluation, selection, and adoption at the elementary and middle level.Ensure federal and state compliance.Attends school board meetings, as needed. Personnel ManagementSupervises and assists with evaluations for elementary and middle school certified staff in alignment with the TEAM rubric(s) when needed.Communications and Community RelationsProvides district's communication director information on matters pertaining to elementary and middle school education.Effectively provides guidance for parental concerns.Provides timely and effective communication regarding incidents and/or situations which might impact the district, its divisions, or its schools to appropriate district office/school personnel.Maintains and cultivates the external and internal image of the district, its divisions, and its schools.
