Senior Professional Engineer, Mechanical
Job Overview We are looking for a Professional Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in modeling and designing HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems for industrial and commercial facilities to join our Facilities Engineering team.
Key Responsibilities Work with a multi‑disciplined team of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural and Architecture professionals to provide planning, design, construction management, and commissioning services for a diverse portfolio of projects including light and heavy industrial, food and beverage, educational and commercial facilities.
Perform energy modeling and life‑cycle cost analysis, design complex sustainable building performance systems, and participate in equipment selection and sizing, heat load analysis, and preparation of mechanical plans, specifications, design details and construction documentation.
Engage in project development and fee estimating, attend client presentations and interviews, meet with code officials, and perform inspections and assessments at project sites. Provide opportunities to serve as Project Manager on mechanically intensive projects and larger multi‑disciplined projects.
Support the continued growth of the Seattle market by contributing to regional business development efforts, strengthening client relationships, and helping expand the presence in the Pacific Northwest.
Hybrid Work Environment Tuesday–Thursday in‑office; Monday & Friday work from home.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of seven years of progressive design experience of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for commercial and/or industrial facilities.
Registered as a Professional Engineer in one or more states with the ability to obtain registration through reciprocity within additional states.
Demonstrated interest or experience in supporting business development initiatives and expanding market presence, preferably within the Seattle or broader Pacific Northwest region.
Prior energy modeling experience of HVAC systems.
Experience responding to Requests for Proposals, including estimating mechanical fees.
Experience performing facility or building load calculations and analyzing system components in accordance with design and client requirements.
Experience sizing ductwork and/or piping systems.
Experience preparing studies, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates and working with drafters to prepare accurate design drawings.
Experience conducting construction administration and inspection activities.
Knowledge of design coordination on larger multi‑disciplined projects involving Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Structural, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate technical ideas and concepts visually and in writing, write specifications and reports, and lead or participate in client consultations and project team meetings.
Willingness to travel as needed (up to 10%) for meetings, client consultations, site inspections, construction management duties, and occasional overnight travel may be required.
Advantageous Qualifications Experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
Experience with energy modeling software such as Trane Trace 3D or related tools.
Fire protection system design experience.
Experience creating air‑balance diagrams, process flow diagrams, equipment general arrangement drawings, and piping/HVAC plan drawings.
Experience in boiler and/or chiller system design for facilities.
LEED certification.
Compensation The listed salary range reflects base pay for candidates with 8–20 years of related experience. Compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities.
