Preschool Teacher, Part-time

WHO WE ARE:
Birdhouse is a new kind of early-learning program built inside a beautifully renovated home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We blend the warmth of a home with the rigor of a modern early childhood program — Reggio-inspired, play-based, rooted in Conscious Discipline principles of safety, connection, and co-regulation. Our goal is to help children (our “birdies”) feel deeply safe, seen, and celebrated.
We operate a mixed-age classroom serving children ages 2–5, which means you’ll support a range of developmental stages, social dynamics, and learning opportunities. We're open M-F from 8am-6pm.
Our classrooms are led by Chazz Lewis (aka “Mr. Chazz”; @mrchazz), a nationally recognized early childhood leader known for making Conscious Discipline practical, joyful, and truly transformational for teachers. You’ll be stepping into a program that values connection, child-led exploration, rituals, community, reflective practice, and loving excellence.
More about birdhouse:
The birdhouse Model: birdhouse transforms single-family homes into small child care centers, offering an intimate, home-based environment for children. Our Lead Teachers live on-site in these homes, where they provide care while living completely rent-free in some of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn. This model allows them to fully integrate into the community and focus on creating a nurturing learning space.
A Path for Growth: birdhouse deeply values the growth and longevity of our team. You’ll have the opportunity to potentially transition into a permanent role in the future!
WHO YOU ARE:
You’re the kind of educator who lights up around young children. You understand that relationships are the curriculum, and you’re able to step into a classroom, attune to its rhythm, and get in sync with the team quickly and respectfully.
You’re excited to learn under Mr. Chazz, grow your skills, and practice self-awareness and reflection in real time. You have a can-do attitude, a growth mindset, and a hunger to understand how children learn, communicate, problem-solve, and co-regulate.
You’re flexible, grounded, and willing to support wherever the classroom needs you — from sensory play setups to snack time to outdoor adventures to co-regulating a toddler having a big feeling. You value teamwork and are energized by being part of a close-knit teacher community where people truly support one another.
