Tehachapi Cement is seeking a qualified Quality Control Supervisor to manage the daily functions of our quality control lab, ensuring compliance with industry standards and enhancing product quality.
Responsibilities:
Quality Program Improvement: Continuously improve the quality program and the products provided to customers, while maintaining certifications and compliance.
Lab Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of the lab, including monitoring the raw mill, kiln, and finish mill for quality compliance.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with company safety policies, MSHA/OSHA regulations, and conduct crew safety meetings and inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
Collective Bargaining Administration: Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Plant Time Keeping System, and participate in disciplinary and grievance processes as necessary.
Technical Knowledge & Training: Provide technical knowledge to prevent disruptions in quality data and ensure all departmental staff are well-trained and up to date with equipment functions.
Compliance & Certifications: Compile Mill Cert Reports and ensure compliance with CalTrans, ADOT, NDOT, UDOT, AASHTO, NSF, and DOT regulations. Maintain records, perform audits, and execute corrective actions to maintain required certifications.
Raw Material Review: Assist in reviewing current and potential raw materials, including fuels, to make recommendations for improving material costs, product quality, and plant operations.
Lab Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the first level of repairs for lab equipment to prevent disruptions and coordinate with external vendors for calibration to meet ASTM standards.
Finish Mill Performance: Assist in monitoring and optimizing finish mill performance to ensure quality consistency and operational efficiency.
Reporting & Data Management: Prepare and send out daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Provide data or samples upon request to inform decisions about raw materials and product quality.
Quarry Support: Facilitate drill hole testing and mine planning at the quarry to improve raw material mix chemistry and production efficiency.
Microscopy Analysis: Analyze microscopy data and generate reports to provide process information to production teams.
Customer Samples: Coordinate with the sales department to send out product samples to potential customers, supporting the sales process.
Training Program Development: Maintain and develop training programs for the Quality and Production departments, enhancing employee knowledge and capabilities.
Inventory & Supplies: Procure supplies and manage inventory to prevent any disruptions in providing quality data.
Equipment Calibration: Ensure all equipment is calibrated on schedule, coordinating with outside vendors for timely onsite calibrations to ensure ASTM compliance.
Other Duties: Take on additional duties as assigned to support department and plant objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge & Skills:
Experience with microscopes and Particle Size Distribution Analyzer (PSD).
Proficiency in using LDMS (Laboratory Data Management System), XRF, and XRD.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with SAP and Paychex systems.
Strong understanding of safety standards and regulations (MSHA/OSHA).
Leadership and organizational skills to effectively manage a team.

Compensation: Annual salary ranging from $85,000 to $106,000.
