As a Mechanical Foreman, you’ll work side-by-side with the Mechanical Manager to coordinate the teams’ daily tasks, ensure safety, and keep locomotives running at peak performance. If you’re passionate about safety, precision, and teamwork, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.Please watch our career video for more information https://www.gwrr.com/careers/ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulationsDirect daily workflow of shop activities and guide other employees to perform work safelyAssist shop management with equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate with Transportation and other department when neededAssist in maintaining compliance including accurate record keeping t for all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations (for example, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Association of American Railroads (AAR))Implement approved repair and maintenance practices for equipmentPerform daily locomotive servicing (for example – fueling, cleaning, supply check) and / or car inspectionsSupport periodic and annual inspections while ensuring compliance with FRA and AAR standardsMaintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities ordering materials as requiredCollaborate with others on repair strategies and project planningInterpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and repair instructionsAssist with projects and perform other duties as assignedWorking Conditions / Physical RequirementsFull-time (40 plus hours weekly)Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-callOutdoor work in all weather conditionsWalking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring 3 points of contact in varying environmental conditionsWorking at elevated heights of 18 feet or greater while adhering to fall protection safety guidelinesFrequent lifting of equipment and tools that could be up to 75 poundsAbility to work in confined spacesMust be able to stoop, kneel, squat and twist as necessary while working on equipmentOccasional travel may be requiredSkills And ExperienceAt least 5 years of relevant work experienceKnowledge of the safe handling and disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous waste productsKnowledge of FRA regulations pertaining to locomotive maintenance and inspection is a plusKnowledge of railroad environmental requirements a plusStrong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate via radio or in personEffective computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environmentRequired Education And CredentialsHigh school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experienceValid driver’s licenseAt least 18 years of ageEmployment RequirementsPre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical reviewMay be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screeningBackground screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving historyRelocation:Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.
