Library Media Specialist

POSITION TITLE: Library Media Specialist FLSA: Exempt Professional QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree with major concentration in library/media Valid state teaching license Certification for School Library Media Specialist K-12 Teaching experience preferred REPORTS TO: Building Principals TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Elementary: 188 days with 3 days extended contract Middle School: 188 days with 4 days extended contract High School: 188 days with 4 days extended contract ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Foster an atmosphere which encourages student and staff library media center usage across District. Prepare and submit an annual budget for the library media center. Maintain accurate records of library media center reports such as: Expenditure reports, requisitions/purchase orders, Instructional Management System (IMS), circulation reports, technical work orders, etc. Inform staff of new professional resources that enhance teaching and learning. Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. Provide staff assistance in designing activities that help students learn to identify, analyze, and synthesize information by using a variety of materials & formats. Participate in instructional planning by collaborating with classroom teachers to design, implement & evaluate resource-based teaching units. Provide information literacy skills instruction. Assist students and staff in the use and production of supplementary teaching/learning materials. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Promote the District adopted policies and regulations dealing with access, confidentiality, copyright and selection. Assist in the selection, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating of building library media support personnel as well as student assistants and volunteers. Formulate long and short range goals (including a 5-year plan) and propose implementation & evaluation. Adhere to the district guidelines and procedures of cataloging and classifying all resources. Establish a plan for acquisition, maintenance and replacement of hardware and software. Coordinate resources and activities with networks and area libraries. Serve on building and district-wide curriculum and technology committees. Attend faculty meetings and other appropriate staff and department meetings.
