This role will be crucial in managing our PostgreSQL infrastructure, primarily running on AWS Aurora, supporting mission-critical healthcare applications. You'll work in a collaborative environment focused on automation, performance optimization, and operational excellence.Who Will Love This JobA problem-solver who enjoys diagnosing complex database performance issues and implementing elegant solutions that improve system reliabilityAn automation enthusiast who sees repetitive tasks as opportunities to build scripts and tools that scale operations efficientlyA detail-oriented professional who takes pride in maintaining robust backup strategies, ensuring data integrity, and planning for disaster recovery scenariosA collaborative team player who works effectively with DevOps, development, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated solutionsA continuous learner who stays current with PostgreSQL best practices, AWS innovations, and database optimization techniquesWhat You Will Work OnDatabase Management & OperationsManage day-to-day operations of PostgreSQL databases in AWS Aurora environments across multiple accountsPerform database setup, configuration, and deployment following best practicesImplement and maintain backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readinessMonitor database health, performance metrics, and capacity planningExecute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtimePerformance OptimizationConduct performance tuning and optimization of PostgreSQL databases and queriesAnalyze and resolve database performance bottlenecks using AWS CloudWatch, AppDynamics, Grafana and other monitoring toolsOptimize database parameters, indexes, and query execution plansWork with development teams to review and optimize SQL queries and database designsLeverage AWS Aurora PostgreSQL features including read replicas, automated backups, and high availability configurationsImplement and manage Aurora clusters, parameter groups, and security configurationsUtilize AWS services such as RDS, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, Lambda, and S3 for database operationsImplement AWS best practices for security, monitoring, and cost optimizationAutomation & ScriptingDevelop automation scripts using Python or other programming languages for routine database tasksCreate tools for database provisioning, monitoring, alerting, and reportingBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deploymentsAutomate backup verification, database refresh processes, and compliance reportingProvide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issuesCollaborate with DevOps, NetOps, and development teams on infrastructure and application initiativesParticipate in on-call rotation for production supportDocument database procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guidesContribute to database standards and best practicesQualificationsRequired4-7 years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL Database AdministratorStrong experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and RDSProficiency in PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshootingSolid understanding of database backup and recovery strategiesExperience with database security, user management, and access controlsProgramming skills in Python, Shell scripting, or similar languages for automationKnowledge of AWS services (CloudWatch, Lambda, S3, Systems Manager, IAM)Experience with database monitoring and alerting toolsStrong understanding of SQL and relational database conceptsExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferredExperience with PostgreSQL logical replication and streaming replicationFamiliarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline)Knowledge of other database platforms (Oracle, MySQL, Redshift)Experience in healthcare technology or regulated industriesAWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty)PostgreSQL certificationsFamiliarity with data warehousing and ETL processesPhysical Requirements90% Desk work10% Remote travel to client sites, conferences, or internal team meetingsCompetitive compensation, with a base salary of $130,000 -
