Site Chemist
Position Overview
Provide tenants of Aberdeen Proving Ground with technical services required to characterize generated hazardous wastes for safe handling and compliant off-site disposal by others.
Essential Functions
Collect waste samples from piles, containers, tanks and other locations.
Analyze samples and report results.
Coordinate customer lab pack requirements and special projects.
Reviewing/approving customer HW analyses and related waste characterization data.
Identifying appropriate laboratory analyses for proper waste characterization.
Ensuring the proper segregation of wastes stored at both the Edgewood and Aberdeen Area storage facilities.
Advising company Hazardous Waste Technicians and on-site Government representatives on issues related to the chemical content of received and stored wastes.
Review customer waste turn-in transactions (i.e., turn-in documents, waste analysis/profiles) in the automated waste tracking system.
Prepare or assist in the preparation of waste turn-in data for completeness and accuracy.
Verify customer provided waste codes for proper classification and confirm their acceptability for storage.
Disallow items prohibited for storage (e.g., explosives and lethal chemical warfare material)
Reject incomplete or inadequate waste analyses and turn-ins that do not provide needed characterization data required for safe handling, storage and disposal.
Consult with the Contract Team Leader on controversial or unresolved issues.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education and Experience)
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry (or closely allied science or engineering) required.
No less than 20 semester hours in chemistry.
No less than 15 semester hours in mathematics or quantitative courses in engineering or physical science.
A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in HW industry as field lab pack chemist.
Documented familiarity with solid waste analyses and the selection of analytical methods.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license
Must be able pass a federal security background check and investigation
Must have U.S. citizenship
Must be able to pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Must be capable of obtaining a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), including medical examiner card and HAZ-MAT endorsement
Must be capable of obtaining/maintaining a DoD Common Access Card
Current Certifications Required – Forklift Operator, HAZWOPER, DOT and RCRA
Physical Demands
Be capable of lifting 50 pounds and wear an air purifying full face respirator and SCBA.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Whitetail Environmental maintains the government compressed work schedule, with every other Friday as a regular day off (RDO). This is a fulltime position with the work schedule as 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday and 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM every other Friday. This schedule allows for a 30-minute lunch break daily.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
