Overview In this role you will own the RF and electromagnetics discipline for the QRF team, driving the design, testing, and calibration of broadband RF hardware for quantum sensing systems. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate laboratory concepts into repeatable, production-ready hardware and test environments. The focus is on field delivery, measurement accuracy, and reliable signal chains that connect RF design choices to atomic sensor performance. This is a hands-on role with a clear path to influence how quantum sensing hardware scales from lab to production. Compensation / BenefitsSalary range: $145,000 – $170,000 per year100% company-paid medical, dental, visionEmployer-funded Health Savings AccountUnlimited PTO401(k) matchCompany-paid Life and AD&D Insurance ResponsibilitiesOwn RF and electromagnetic requirements, architectures, and verification for QRF sensor heads and test systemsDesign, simulate, build, and characterize RF structures (electrodes, resonators, antennas, fixtures, shielding)Develop RF signal generation, amplification, filtering, frequency conversion, and LO approaches for broadband sensor operationBuild and optimize RF test environments, field generation, mapping, and calibration configurationsDefine measurements (field strength, impedance, loss, phase, noise, dynamic range, etc.) and maintain performance budgetsLead RF hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis across bench to system levelsUse electromagnetic and circuit simulations to guide design and reconcile models with lab dataDevelop Python or similar automation for instrumentation control, calibration, data analysis, and reportingCollaborate with applied physicists to relate RF behavior to atomic response and sensor performanceCoordinate with electrical, optical-mechanical, software, manufacturing, and technicians to transfer designs into repeatable buildsDocument designs, calibration methods, test procedures, and risk analyses for reviews and future production Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, electromagnetics, or related field, or equivalent experienceAt least five years of relevant RF, microwave, electromagnetics, antenna, or sensor hardware development experienceHands-on lab experience with VNA, spectrum/SA, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters, RF probes/sensorsKnowledge of impedance matching, gain/loss, noise, dynamic range, linearity, phase noise, spurious response, leakage, shielding, grounding, measurement uncertaintyExperience developing RF requirements, budgets, test methods, calibration approaches, and quantitative acceptance criteriaExperience with RF/circuit/electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, CST, ADS, AWR, COMSOL, FEKO)Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW for instrument control, automation, modeling, or data analysisAbility to own RF domain, document work clearly, collaborate across disciplines, and learn quantum sensing conceptsCross-functional collaborationStrong documentation and communicationProblem solving and analytical thinkingRF and microwave hardware designElectromagnetic simulation (HFSS, CST, COMSOL, FEKO, ADS, AWR, etc.)Impedance matching and RF front-end design
