Daily ActivitiesResponsibilitiesBackyard ADUs Carpenters are responsible for all aspects of construction during a Backyard ADU’s construction project outside of licensed trades (electric work, plumbing work and HVAC work). This could include any of the following activities and beyond:Forming of ICF foundationsPouring of Concrete into ICF foundations Setting of modular houses, including ladder work and tethered roofing workFraming of on-site components (Breezeways, decks, ETC.) Air-sealing and insulating of entire building envelope (Including spray foam, blown in cellulose, rockwool batts, acoustic caulking, taping and rigid foam board) Installation of drywall including mudding and taping Installation of flooring (hardwood, tile, LVT and LVP) Installation if interior and exterior wood trim work Installation of cabinets and hardware. Installation of ducting for dryers, bathroom vents and ERV’s. Installation of siding (Wood, Vinyl, or composite) Installation of decking Installation of Stucco on foundation walls. More Requirements to ConsiderWe work year round including in cold and warm weather and Carpenters are expected to be prepared accordingly for the weather.Carpenters must be extremely organized, be humble about their construction knowledge and motivated to continue learning based on building science and empirical best practices. Carpenters are incentivized for moving projects efficiently through Backyard ADUs construction phase.Carpenters will also be the local face of Backyard ADUs to Code Enforcement officers, clients, passer bys, etc. and will be expected to learn about the Backyard ADU’s mission and present a thoughtful and kind face to everyone interested.HoursWorking hours are flexible in order to balance personal life and client service, e.g. If work can take a Saturday, life can take a Thursday.A total of 40 hours of work time during construction hours (6:30am to 6:30pm, This can be (4 long days, or 5 regular days, or even more flexible some weeks. On average we would like to see a minimum of 3 working days. Work is project based and some weeks all of the 40 hours will be spent on site, and other weeks some of your hours could be spent commuting to remote job sites or picking up materials for job sites. 1 hour of Continuing Education every week expected (sometimes these are provided by Backyard ADUs, sometimes they will be self-driven. This is a total of 40 hours of Continuing Education required per year and can be broken into chunks larger than 1 hour. Backyard ADUs will pay for Approved continuing education.) Some self-driven Continuing Education expected outside of dedicated project work hoursLocationMust live in their region (specify if willing to travel)Work will occur at client sites with a base at the Backyard ADUs construction storage facility.PayBase Salary: $60,000-$82,000 depending on experienceIncentive Pay: Up to an additional $12,000 (See Below)Incentive pay is based on how close to the original budgeted time and cost a project comes. For our typical project, a maximum of approximately $1000 is available as a bonus for each Carpenter when the project finishes. Our carpenters work on approximately 12 units per calendar year.
