This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep experience in both physical layout and protection & control (P&C) drafting, who can work independently and collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients.The Senior Designer will be responsible for producing and reviewing CAD drawings, coordinating design standards, and supporting all phases of substation projects—from conceptual layouts to construction-ready deliverables. This position offers remote flexibility with occasional travel for site visits or client coordination.What You Will DoDevelop detailed schematics for AC/DC systems, control circuits, and relay logicDraft single-line, three-line, and interconnection diagramsCreate wiring diagrams for control panels, relay racks, and equipment terminationsIntegrate SCADA, RTU, and communication system layoutsCoordinate with engineers to ensure accurate relay settings and device configurationsProduce substation layout drawings including plan views, elevation views, and section detailsDraft conduit and cable routing plans, grounding layouts, and equipment arrangementsPrepare foundation and structural support drawings in coordination with civil/structural teamsGenerate bill of materials (BOM), cable schedules, and panel schedulesApply client-specific drafting standards and ensure consistency across deliverablesPerform quality checks and redline reviews of drawings from junior designersCollaborate with engineers to resolve design issues and incorporate field markupsMaintain organized drawing sets and revision control throughout the project lifecycleWhat You Will BringAssociate degree or technical diploma in drafting/design or related field8+ years of experience in substation design, with emphasis on both physical and P&C draftingProficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD platformsFamiliarity with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and utility drafting standardsStrong understanding of electrical components including breakers, transformers, relays, and control systemsAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documentsExcellent organizational and communication skillsExperience mentoring junior drafters and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teamsWho We AreWSB is a design and consulting firm specializing in engineering, community planning, environmental, and construction services.
