Utilities Construction Worker I, II, III, Senior

DescriptionResponsible for performing heavy, manual work installing and maintaining County sewer collection network. Clears easements by brush cutting, weed trimming, and using chainsaw to cut trees or limbs. Repairs and cleans sewer lines and systems, mixes concrete, adjusts and repairs manholes. Assists construction crew in all phases of daily operations. Responsible for maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment. Work is performed under direct to minimal supervision, and contingent on the level of the position.Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work. This position is considered an essential position which requires the individual report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions outside of normal working hours, or when county offices are closed. Position is required to be “on-call” on a regularly scheduled rotating basis.Depending on position level, may serve as a lead worker.Minimum QualificationsMust possess a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.Utilities Construction Worker I [Advertised salary range: $34,498 - 38,000]High school diploma or GED, and some experience in operating hand and power tools; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Utilities/plumbing knowledge preferred, but not required.Utilities Construction Worker II [Advertised salary range: $38,041 - 43,000]Must meet and maintain all the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for Utilities Construction Worker I. Additional requirements include:One (1) year of satisfactory York County experience at the Utilities Construction Worker I level, or two (2) years of direct utilities construction experience.Completion or possession of the following certifications/trainings or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment:Competent Person Trench SafetyConfined Space EntrySafety Data Sheets (SDS)VDOT FlaggerMandatory County annual trainingGeneral knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).Ability to be entered into on-call rotation.External hires must complete, or provide proof of prior completion, training and certifications required for the Utilities Construction Worker II position within one (1) year of employment date.
