Lawn Works Lead

Primary Purpose: Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the District.RESPONSIBILITIES:Major Responsibilities and DutiesManagementAssist in training new lawn works employees.Direct and monitor the work of lawn works employees.Assist in the annual evaluation of lawn works employees.Grounds and LandscapingMow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.Care for trees, shrubs and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, maintaining beds and controlling weeds.Plant shrubs and vegetation.Water grounds and apply fertilizer.Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, debris and refuse from district grounds and facilities.Assist with the inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler systems.Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.Help keep equipment and tools in proper operating condition by performing minor adjustments and repairs.Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.SafetyKeep Lawn Works Supervisor informed of daily occurrences.Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report any faulty equipment and safety hazards to the supervisor.Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.Attendance at work is an essential function.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.Supervisory Responsibilities:Direct and monitor the work of lawn works employees (Lawn Works Technician II)EXPERIENCE:Minimum Experience:Three years of experience in grounds work preferredQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Education/Certification:High school diploma or G.E.D. preferredValid Texas driver's licenseEligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance programSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to read and understand written instructionsAbility to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipmentAbility to operate riding or power mower, power tools and hand toolsKnowledge of minor repair techniques and ground maintenanceOTHER INFORMATION:Equipment Used: Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, saw, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, maintainer, aerator, fertilizer spreader, truck or van. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizers) and loud noises.
