Commissioning Senior Technician
Tri-City Group is currently seeking a Commissioning Senior Technician for Davenport, IA. This position is responsible for executing and supporting commissioning activities with a focus on safety, system accuracy, and field coordination. This role manages RFIs, performs system walkdowns, verifies documentation and equipment, and ensures alignment between design and field conditions while coordinating with subcontractors and supporting startup and testing activities.Essential FunctionsLead implementation and enforcement of the site safety startup plan, including coordination of LOTO activities with the site LOTO ownerFacilitate daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and crew safety briefingsIdentify, assess, and communicate risks related to startup procedures, new personnel, and first-time energized equipmentExercise and promote the Stop Work Authority to ensure a safe work environmentEnsure all commissioning personnel, including equipment manufacturers, complete required site-specific safety trainingMaintain full visibility of RFI status, timelines, and priorities for assigned projectsGenerate and submit RFIs in response to field conditions and design discrepanciesPerform independent system walkdowns, including one-lines, flow diagrams, and schematicsVerify equipment tagging accuracy throughout walkdownsIdentify documentation gaps across trades and multi-vendor packagesPrepare redline markups for review and approval by the Commissioning ManagerParticipating in Factory Acceptance Testing alongside the Commissioning ManagerDevelop a functional understanding of plant systems and operations through FAT involvementContribute to discussions on system design and plant functionalityValidate alignment between plant design, flow diagrams, and SCADA/HMI interfacesExecute work in alignment with the commissioning plan, including all milestones and responsible partiesMonitor subcontractor progress and compile turnover documentation for each scope of workIdentify, document, and assign punch list itemsConduct field oversight to verify subcontractor work quality and scope complianceReview subcontractor daily reports for accuracy and escalate discrepancies as neededPrepare and submit detailed daily reports to the Commissioning Manager, including site conditions, work activities, completion status, and photo documentationUtilize Procore and Timestamp Photos for consistent and accurate data collectionSupport development of site-specific commissioning procedures using established templatesReview and validate procedures to ensure alignment with plant design and equipment requirementsCompetenciesStrong safety mindset and assertivenessClear and precise communicationHigh attention to detailOwnership and accountabilityEffective coordination and teamworkProactive problem-solvingComposure in high-pressure environmentsWork EnvironmentWork is performed in both office and active construction site environmentsRegular exposure to outdoor conditions, varying weather, noise, dust, and energized equipmentFrequent interaction and exchange of information with subcontractors, vendors, and project teams in fast-paced, safety-sensitive settingsRegular use of standard office equipment, including computersTravel: 80% travel required; project-site-based and in office.QualificationsElectrical journeyman, technical degree, or equivalent field experienceOSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR certifications requiredValid driver’s license requiredNETA ATS/ETT or equivalent testing experience preferredTechnical ExperiencePower systems commissioning (relays, reclosers, switching procedures)Ability to read and interpret one-lines, PLC drawings, and control narrativesSCADA systems and basic networking knowledgeExperience with generation systems, DC systems, and VFD/soft start equipmentFamiliarity with solar PV systems is a plusTools/SoftwareProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)Experience with Procore and scheduling tools preferredCertifications & Specialized TrainingSEL or other manufacturer-specific certifications preferred Candidates must possess strong attention to detail, focus on accuracy, solid communication skills, positive initiative and judgment, the ability to problem solve and meet deadlines and the ability to multitask with tact and consideration.All job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screen and reference check.
