High School Head Girls Swimming Coach - Morton HS
General Description of Position:
The high school head coach is assigned by the athletic director/building principal based on recommendation and review procedure for authorized positions and is responsible for the planning and coordinating athletic activities to which he/she has been assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Be responsible for all matters relating to the organization and administration of the team under his/her direction
Enforce all rules of the High School Athletic Association related to his/her sport
Assist in planning special events such as assemblies, parent’s night, homecoming, banquets et.
Maintain an accurate and current squad roster and submit copies to athletic director
Develop his/her part of the athletic program by stressing fundamentals of the sport, realizing that the main objective of the program is participation and a friendly, competitive attitude, and the won-lost records are of secondary importance
Recognize athletic activities as an integral part of a well-balanced educational program, coordinated with the school’s educational program
Provide vigorous activities that will develop the physique, increase the efficiency of the cardiovascular system, and contribute to the development of physical skills
Develop in students the principles of leadership and good citizenship through experiences in sportsmanship
Foster self-expression, self-confidence, and self-discipline through physical, emotional, and social experiences
Cooperate with the athletic director in setting up physical examination schedules and verify that no candidate is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her examination cares has been completed and his/her insurance coverage is in effect
Assign at least one (1) coach to be always with the squad and to supervise the locker room until all squad members have left the building
Assign at least one (1) coach to ensure that all window, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used
Prepare a detailed equipment, supply request, and submit it to the athletic director
Arrange for the presentation of team awards through the athletic director
Recommend teams that may be scheduled and official to be employed
Work closely with the school Sports Coordinator in checking player eligibility, making out eligibility lists, and sending the lists to the School City of /Supervisor of Physical Education and Athletics
Work with the Sports Coordinator in developing plans for issuing and receiving player equipment. The coach is jointly responsible with the sports Coordinator for the condition and disposition of all equipment assigned to his/her sports
Develop sound public relations with parents and news media
Attend departmental staff meeting, clinics, and other types of professional growth activities as approved by the principal
Cooperate with other members of the athletic staff, establishing sound rules for conduct, dress, and general appearance that will be conducive to the development of clean-cut young Americans
Be available for activities beyond the school day
Other duties/responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Knowledge of the sport being taught
A thorough understanding of the participants physically, mentally, and emotionally
Skill in the art of teaching the fundamental of the sport
Desirable character and personality traits
High moral standards
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, and other staff members
A thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations which pertain to the instructor’s areas of responsibility
Employment Information
Personnel are recommended annually by the building principal and approved by the superintendent. Compensation will be determined by the School City of Hammond agreement
Performance of the job will be evaluated annually
