Director, Mechanical Engineering – Consumer Health HardwareSummary
A fast-growing consumer health technology company is seeking a hands-on mechanical engineering leader to oversee development of complex electromechanical products, including a flagship commercial platform and a pipeline of next-generation hardware. This role will lead product development from concept through high-volume production and partner closely with executive leadership to shape the hardware roadmap. Based onsite inSan Francisco (5 days/week) .Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering across the full hardware development lifecycle from concept through production
Manage teams spanning mechanical engineering, soft goods, prototyping, and test engineering
Drive cross-functional architectural decisions across thermals, fluids, mechanisms, sensing, and system integration
Partner with executive leadership to define and execute the hardware product roadmap
Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, software, sensing, clinical, operations, marketing, and finance teams
Ensure products meet high standards for performance, usability, and reliability
Support supplier engagement and manufacturing execution with travel to Asia as needed
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization
Implement strong development processes including design reviews and phase-gate structuresRequirements
10+ years developing complex electromechanical hardware (consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive, or related)
2+ years managing mechanical or product design engineering teams
Proven track record launching products under aggressive timelines with lean teams
Strong expertise in injection molding, mechanism design, and electronics/sensor integration
Experience with thermal systems, fluid systems, actuators, and soft goods preferred
Experience scaling products to high-volume manufacturing in Asia
Deep knowledge of DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T
BSME or equivalent required
Willingness to travel internationally as needed
