Job Description
Operate in a fast paced Imaging environment performing all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology. The Radiology Technologist will perform Diagnostic Testing, Interventional Procedures, participate in Surgery, and Fluoroscopy. Speaks positively in all customer interactions internal and external.Radiation Generating EquipmentPOSITIONS – Diagnostic X-Ray TechnologistKey FunctionsPerform QC as outlined belowPerform appropriate tube warm up practicesPerform quality control specific to modality (Phantom Imaging and evaluation, cassette cleaning, etc...)Work with Field Service Engineer to maintain equipment functionality and image qualityApply appropriate radiation safety practices to daily activitiesPractice ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) methods to minimize radiation exposure to patients and coworkersUtilize protective barriers, lead aprons, and shields when possibleCollimate and shield to minimize patient radiation exposureParticipate in data collection for quarterly Radiology Quality Assurance CommitteeAlways follow the Safe Operating Procedures specific to the equipmentWork closely with the medical physicist to follow ODH (Ohio Department of Health) rules regarding radiation safety practicesRoutine responsibilitiesEvaluate the physicians order for accuracyIdentify the patient utilizing two forms of IDSet appropriate KVP, MAS settings for exposureAccurately position the patient so that all projections can be obtainedPerform exam to provide quality images for physician interpretationPost process image data for physician interpretationProvide patient education when requiredProvide hospital personnel education as neededWork under the direction of the Radiologist/Physician during procedures to achieve the goal of appropriate careIn an emergent situation operate quickly, and in control, provide the procedure to achieve the best patient outcomeRadiology TechnologistMAIN FUNCTION:Radiologic Technologists assist the Radiologist/Physician with the process of imaging and diagnosing illness. Radiologic Technologist job descriptions include tasks such as: capturing the image, obtaining the best quality image, and ensuring the patients are comfort and safe. The Rad Tech must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient. In addition, be sure that they are comfortable and at ease during the procedure; however, it is very important that they do what is necessary to obtain a high quality image that will be sufficient for thorough examination by the physician and allow for correct diagnosis.Additional Position Expectations:Patient communication and preparation including removal of garments or jewelry that may interfere with procedure and explaining how the process works.Positioning patients properly to obtain quality imagesSetting the equipment to obtain the best density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged.Taking preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.Applying their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems.Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of patients including the pediatric, elderly, ailing, and handicapped.Perform other assignments as requested by the Imaging Services Director or ManagerPossess sufficient computer skills to perform responsibilities in PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System)
