Perfusionist
DescriptionJob Summary:The incumbent will be responsible for performing perfusion on cardiac surgical patients and cell saver procedures on orthopedic, cardiac, and neurosurgical patients. All equipment, supplies, and documentation must be maintained in accordance with regulatory rules. Perfusionist responsibilities will constitute approximately 90% of the role, with cell saver activities representing about 10%.Job Responsibilities:Perform selection of the perfusion circuit and prime solution to meet patient requirements, proposed procedures, and surgeon preferences. Prepare disposable and non-disposable components of the cardiopulmonary circuit for surgical exercises. Ensure the safety and function of the heart-lung machine, disposable circuit, and all related ancillary equipment. Manage patients on cardiopulmonary bypass with appropriate pharmacological interventions. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of pump physiology and its altered homeostatic ramifications. Maintain awareness of the conduct of the surgical procedure. Carry out non-routine procedures under changing conditions with general instructions from supervisors or physicians. Work directly with patients and customers. Collaborate with internal and external customers. Work with other healthcare professionals and staff. Interact frequently with individuals at the director level or above. SkillsRequired Skills & Experience:Effective interpersonal communication skills. Strong written and oral communication abilities. Demonstrated patient care skills. Effective organization and ability to manage a multi-task role. Understanding of healthcare delivery processes in a medical office. Preferred Skills & Experience:One to two years of related experience. EducationRequired Education:Appropriate degree from an approved program in Health Science or related field. Graduation from a CAHEA (AMA's Committee on Allied Health, Education and Accreditation) accredited program. Required Certifications & Licensure:Current licensure as a perfusionist by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
