Tree Farm/Nursery Manager

Are you passionate about horticulture and management? Avalon Farms is seeking a dedicated Grower/Manager to oversee our 8-acre tree farm. This role is crucial for maintaining the health and vitality of our nursery while managing a dynamic team and engaging with industry professionals. Position Overview: As the Grower/Manager, you will be responsible for: Grounds and Tree Care: Schedule and oversee the maintenance of the grounds and ensure the health of the trees through proper pruning, fertilization, and pest control. Team Leadership: Manage a team of up to 4 people, including 1 full-time laborer, during the 9-month growing season. Inventory Management: Track tree availability, manage inventory, and release stock to clients weekly. Maintain accurate records of available and upcoming inventory. Sales and Communication: Engage with nurseries, landscape contractors, and vendors. Send out weekly availability updates and manage customer communications. Industry Presence: Represent Avalon Farms at nursery and landscape industry shows and events, which may require some evening hours. Key Responsibilities: Schedule and oversee maintenance of the tree nursery grounds. Conduct weekly inspections and manage tree care across all stages. Track inventory and forecast tree availability for Fall and Spring. Maintain and grow a list of industry partners for regular updates and promotions. Manage monthly inventory records, sales, and invoicing with support from accounting. Report to the General Manager on nursery operations, including weekly meetings. Handle tree tagging, identification, harvesting, and manage a crew of up to 4 people. Address pest issues promptly and manage the irrigation and fertilization systems. Oversee additional activities such as composting, fill dirt management, and disease control. Order yearly planting materials including liners and bare root trees. Position Details: Type: Part-time with potential to become full-time Compensation: Starting at $25 per hour, DOE, plus commission on tree sales Growth Opportunity: This position offers the potential for advancement as we expand our nursery operations.
