Assistant Director Special Education Compliance

Job GoalTo assist the Director of Special Services in training and leading the Special Services Department to improve and to enhance compliance practices to be in alignment with IDEA, as well as improve instructional practices.QualificationsCurrent Arizona Administrative CertificateMaster's Degree in related fieldMinimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience in a multicultural setting preferredDemonstrate an understanding of the psycho-educational evaluation process and eligibility criteria for determining eligibility for Special Education.Supervisory experienceDemonstrates an understanding of the IDEA/ADE Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements/complianceEvidence of current legal issues pertaining to Special Education and IDEA.Demonstrates successful collaboration with students, teachers, and parentsEvidence of experience in working with diverse student populationsEvidence of advocacy in the area of Special EducationDemonstrates adult coaching skillsEvidence of being a life-long learnerDemonstrates ability to provide instructional leadershipDemonstrates ability to assess student learningDemonstrates ability to prioritize school issuesDemonstrates ability to solve problemsDemonstrates ability to communicate in oral and written formSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.Performance ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities are determined in part by the goals and objectives outlined by the Special Services Strategic Plan. They shall include, but not be limited to:Assists Director of Special Services to ensure compliance and support throughout the district.Assists Director of Special Services in establishing goals based on student achievement data and implementing strategies, which will support multiple assessments of students' growth.Monitors Individual Education Plan (IEP) paperwork for placement options of Special Education students throughout the district.Ensures IDEA legal documents are submitted and comply with state and federal requirements.Ensures the creation of complaint Individual Education Plans for assigned service management students.Monitors Individual Education Plan (IEP) paperwork for placement options of Special Education students throughout the district.Trains and monitors performance of specialists and classroom teachers to ensure legal compliance of Special Education paperwork.Provides regular school status reports centered on the IDEA compliance process to the Director of Special Services.Supports the special education legal compliance process by reviewing psycho-educational evaluation reports, IEPs, and progress reports for feedback and continuous growth within our department.Helps establish an expectation that all staff will create an environment that values and supports student success.Assists Director of Special Services in addressing parent/community concerns in an expedient and professional manner.Participates in community, school, and District meetings as appropriate or assigned.Works with District departments to support throughout the district.Assists Director of Special Services in establishing a leadership model that promotes participation of teachers, parents, and support staff in school improvement strategies.Models for students, staff, and colleagues the success that comes from being a life-long learner through the process of professional growth.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Knowledge And SkillsKnowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.Physical RequirementsMedium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
