Medical Director

Position Overview The Medical Director (MD) is responsible for providing strong leadership for the hospital, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, and ensuring regulatory compliance relating to the practice of veterinary medicine. The MD also serves as a staff veterinarian in addition to administrative duties. MDs demonstrate strong work and professional ethics, a positive attitude, and uphold a high standard of patient care. They influence hospital culture and morale. Key Responsibilities Maintain high quality progressive veterinary care, overseeing medical standards and quality of care Develop and implement medical policies and practices Provide clinical patient care and handle complex cases Ensure positive communication with clients and between staff Manage controlled drugs and supervise related supply requests Conduct regular veterinarian meetings and coaching sessions Handle patient care problems, client complaints, and referral partner issues Monitor DVM performance and production, provide coaching Serve as a mentor and role model for staff veterinarians Lead candidate interviews for potential DVMs Identify new service opportunities and assist in inventory decisions Monitor key performance indicators, work with Hospital Manager to achieve positive results Plan and manage temporary solution strategies for operational challenges Qualifications (Required) DVM degree from an accredited college or university Current State Veterinary License DEA registration 3‑5+ years veterinary practice experience Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent surgical and dental skills Team‑oriented work ethic Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality care Effective communication with staff and patients Client communication skills: eliciting information, rapport building, explanations to pet owners Ability to provide confidence and reassurance to stressed, ill, or painful pets Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physically demanding tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
