Simulation InternshipThis role is fully onsite in Bloomfield, CT, five days per week, and the company will be relocating to Suffield, CT later in 2026. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation propulsion systems through advanced modeling, simulation, and analysis. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will help evaluate engine performance, thermal behavior, structural integrity, fluid dynamics, and system-level interactions to support product development and testing efforts. The ideal candidate is passionate about solving complex engineering problems, enjoys working with computational tools, and is eager to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. You thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment, are detail-oriented, and enjoy collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in developing and executing simulation models to support engine, thermal, structural, fluid, and system-level analysesSupport the validation of simulation results through comparison with experimental and test dataCollaborate with mechanical, combustion, controls, and test engineers to evaluate design concepts and optimize performanceAnalyze and interpret simulation results, identifying trends and providing engineering recommendationsAssist with automation of simulation workflows, data processing, and reportingDocument methodologies, assumptions, results, and conclusions in technical reports and presentationsSupport design reviews and engineering decision-making through analytical insightsPreferred Skills and ExperienceExperience with simulation and analysis tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, GT-Power, COMSOL, Abaqus, STAR-CCM+, Fluent, or similar softwareFamiliarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), thermal analysis, or system modelingProgramming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languagesUnderstanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanicsExperience processing and analyzing large datasetsStrong problem-solving, analytical, and technical communication skillsAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering teamPrevious internship, research, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, rocketry, UAV, or other hands-on engineering project experience is a plusOur Culture: At LiquidPiston, we challenge convention and solve hard problems.
