We are a well-funded stealth energy-tech company developing a breakthrough platform that delivers low-carbon power and decarbonization services to the U.S. grid. Backed by leading climate and energy investors, we are advancing toward our first commercial-scale project deployments in major U.S. power markets and are assembling a senior team of operators with deep utility-scale project development experience.
About the Role
We are hiring a Vice President of Commercial Development to lead the origination, structuring, and execution of our first utility-anchored commercial projects. This individual will own the deal — from utility and IPP relationship development, through site selection, interconnection, and offtake structuring, to financial close — and will work directly with the CEO to translate a strong technical platform into a bankable project pipeline.
This is a high-impact, in-person role for an operator who has personally led project development at the gigawatt or hundred-million-dollar scale and wants to build the commercial engine of a category-defining energy company from the ground up. The role is based full-time on-site at our Campbell, CA headquarters.
What You’ll Do
Own the end-to-end commercial development lifecycle: origination, term sheet, definitive agreements, and project FID
Build and manage senior relationships with investor-owned utilities, public power entities, IPPs, RTOs/ISOs, and major industrial offtakers
Lead site control, interconnection queue strategy, permitting coordination, and EPC selection in partnership with the engineering team
Structure and negotiate offtake agreements (PPAs, tolling agreements, capacity contracts, services agreements) and supporting commercial frameworks
Partner with finance leadership on project finance structuring, tax credit monetization (ITC, PTC, 45Q, 45V, 45Z as applicable), and equity/debt capital raises at the project level
Build a multi-project pipeline across priority U.S. markets (ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, WECC) with a near-term emphasis on Texas and the broader Permian Basin region
Represent the company with utility regulators, state energy offices, and industry stakeholders
Recruit and lead a small, senior commercial team as the pipeline matures
What You Bring
15+ yearsof progressive experience in commercial development of utility-scale energy infrastructure
Direct, hands-on track record developing and closing projects inat least oneof the following: utility-scale energy storage, carbon capture / carbon management, or utility-scale renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal)
Demonstrated experience taking projects from greenfield origination through to NTP / financial close, including at least one project of $100M+ in total project cost
Deep working relationships with utility resource planning, power supply, and procurement teams at multiple U.S. utilities or load-serving entities
Strong command of PPA and tolling agreement structures, capacity markets, ancillary services, and bilateral offtake frameworks
Working fluency in interconnection processes (LGIA, GIA, queue reform), site control mechanics, and major permitting pathways (FERC, state PUC, air permitting where relevant)
Working knowledge of federal energy tax credits and project finance structures (tax equity, transferability, back-leverage)
Comfortable operating with ambiguity, owning outcomes, and building process where none exists
Strong executive presence; able to lead negotiations across utility C-suites, EPCs, and capital partners
Willingness and ability to work full-time, in person, at our Campbell, CA headquarters
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, JD, or technical graduate degree a plus
Bonus Points
Prior experience developing projects in ERCOT and/or the Permian Basin
Experience structuring deals around natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) assets, behind-the-meter load, or carbon-attributed power products
Existing relationships with hyperscaler / data center power procurement teams
Experience monetizing 45Q tax credits or California LCFS credits
Track record of building a commercial team from a single-digit headcount through scale
