Placement Range $10.00 Position Type Student Employee Job Category Student General DescriptionStudent will assist automotive faculty with general duties involving the maintenance of the vehicles, inventory, and preparation of labs.Reports To Automotive Program Director What position(s) reports to this position?NoneMinimum Education/ExperienceCurrent OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.ORCurrent OCCC student with a Federal Work-Study award.Required Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesMust be familiar with all safety procedures when working around vehicles and especially the use of vehicle frame lifts, tools and equipment.Must be able to perform routine maintenance procedures without extensive supervision. Must be familiar with electrical systems and safety issues dealing with charging and starting.Physical Demands/Working Conditions1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Heavy work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom and shop area to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.This position requires the person to frequently communicate with colleagues and students to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.This position requires the person to frequently position self to work on vehicles and engines in lab area, including under vehicle.This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer; other office equipment and mobile devices to prepare instructional documents and answer email correspondence.3. VISUAL ACUITY:This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.4. Since every duty associated with this position may not be described herein, employees may be required to perform duties not specifically spelled out in the job description, but which may be reasonably considered to be incidental in the performing of their duties just as though they were actually written out in this job description.Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)Student will maintain vehicles in automotive area, including diagnosing vehicle problems, changing oil, installing batteries, and other routine operations required on these donated vehicles.Assist Program Coordinator/Department Chair with inventory and organization of tools, bolt selections, special tools etc.Assist in preparation of lab set-up for various classes.Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures)Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
