Design Permit Specialist

DescriptionDesign & Permitting Specialist Position Overview The Design & Permitting Specialist supports project teams by preparing design documentation and managing permitting efforts for infrastructure and facility projects. This role is hands-on and design-oriented, with a strong focus on CAD production, permit coordination, and detailed documentation rather than people or team management. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Design & Documentation Prepare and update design drawings and supporting documentation using CAD and related design tools. Assist with field design confirmations and revisions based on site conditions and agency feedback. Ensure drawings and permit packages are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements. Permitting & Approvals Prepare, submit, and track zoning, construction, and environmental permit applications. Assist in compiling permitting and zoning documentation required by local, state, and federal agencies. Track permit statuses, conditions, and timelines, and communicate updates to internal teams. Agency & Third-Party Coordination Coordinate with permitting agencies, municipalities, utility companies, joint pole owners, structure owners, and other third parties. Support communication with agencies to clarify requirements and respond to comments or revisions. Deliver and retrieve permit packages from local agencies as needed. Project Coordination Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and construction teams to align permitting and design deliverables with project schedules. Maintain organized records for sites, permits, revisions, and approvals. Assist with permit renewals and documentation updates when project scopes change. Organization & Work Management Maintain a clean and organized physical and digital workspace. Manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize workload, and document progress. Perform work independently with minimal supervision while remaining an active team contributor. Required Qualifications 3-6+ years of experience in design, permitting, construction, or a related field. Proficiency in design activities, including CAD. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word). Strong attention to detail and ability to manage documentation accurately. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to agencies for permit drop-offs, pickups, and site confirmations.
