Lead Tooling Engineer

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Lead Tooling Engineer to drive innovation and excellence in manufacturing processes. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and optimization of tooling solutions that enhance production efficiency, quality, and safety. As a key leader within our engineering team, you will oversee the creation and maintenance of complex tooling systems, collaborate across departments, and ensure that all tooling activities align with industry standards and company goals. Your expertise will directly impact our manufacturing capabilities, enabling us to deliver top-tier products to our customers with precision and reliability. Job Duties: Conducting preventative maintenance on tools and equipment. Supports production and operation through a variety of tooling and maintenance activities. Maintains time-keeping records including time-off requests and absences Helps the department manage resources to achieve budgetary goals Job Description: Works safely and adheres to all established policies Embraces and maintains a full-service culture Manages resources to achieve 100% efficiency, 90% machine uptime, and less than .5% scrap Achieves Safety Goal of zero accidents Schedules department personnel to meet the needs of the organization Operates hand tools Operates lathes, mills, surface grinders, welders, cutting tools and other shop equipment Performs preventative maintenance on molds; disassembles, cleans, lubricates and reassembles molds Performs repairs to molds; replaces broken ejector pins, replaces broken core blocks, removes broken bolts, rebuilds cylinders, does basic wiring, makes and connects hydraulic hoses Operates forklift and overhead crane Keeps tool room, equipment, and personal tools orderly and clean Replaces tools, supplies, equipment, and materials when a project is complete Troubleshoots to find root caused Repairs tools Welds, fabricates, repairs, machines, and maintains parts, tools, and molds Performs other duties as assigned Job Requirements: H.S. diploma or GED. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in injection molding manufacturing Excellent math skills and manual dexterity Good mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge Can read blueprints and schematics and have a desire to learn and be dependable Skills Extensive experience with CAD software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, and Schematics for designing complex tooling components. Proficiency in programming robotics, CNC machines, CAM software, and PLCs for automation tasks within manufacturing environments. Strong knowledge of plastics injection molding processes combined with mechanical engineering principles relevant to tooling design. Expertise in root cause analysis techniques for troubleshooting industrial equipment failures or process inefficiencies. Familiarity with vision inspection systems and industrial equipment used in high-volume manufacturing settings. Solid understanding of lean manufacturing methodologies aimed at continuous improvement in production lines. Ability to interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), schematics, and technical drawings accurately. Background in factory or manufacturing facility experience with a focus on assembly line optimization and robotics integration. Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards related to quality management systems within manufacturing environments.
