Electrical Engineer

Position: Electrical (Hardware) EngineerLocation: Rochester, NYDuration: PermanentPosition SummaryWe are seeking a hands-on Electrical Hardware Engineer to own the end-to-end development of electrical subsystems for next-generation digital radiographic equipment and mobile medical platforms. In this role, you will lead designs from concept through production, with a focus on power electronics (including high voltage), battery systems, PCB and harness design, and system integration. You'll collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and supplier partners to deliver robust, manufacturable designs that meet performance, safety, and regulatory expectations.Position ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot and diagnose a broad range of electrical issues in both released products and in development hardware; perform root cause analysis and corrective actions.Own electrical subsystems through the development cycle from requirements, schematic capture, PCB design/layout oversight, cabling/harnessing, component selection, documentation with support of QA V&V and production release activities.Design and guide high-speed PCB layouts in Altium Designer; drive stack up, impedance control, SI/PI considerations, and EMI/EMC best practices.Design harnesses (conventional wire and flex), including connector/terminal selection, wire gauge/safety considerations, strain relief, and documentation.Develop power electronics architectures (including high voltage, power generation and distribution, grounding, protection, and safety) suitable for mobile and medical environments.Prototype and integrate new designs at the system level; support bring-up, test fixture development, and verification/ validation activities.Collaborate with suppliers/Commodity Managers on fabrication, test, DFM/DFT feedback, first articles, and component obsolescence mitigation; resolve build and test issues swiftly.Generate clear design documentation (requirements, specifications, drawings, BOMS, etc.), ensuring traceability and compliance.Contribute to system architecture, including new data path concepts for imaging systems; participate in IP development and review as appropriate.Required Skills & Education:Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering.Hands-on electrical engineering experience, serving as the technical lead for the electrical systems on 3-5 products from concept through production.Strong power electronics experience, including high voltage design, power generation/distribution, grounding, protection, and safety (preferably in mobile and medical environments)End-to-end subsystem ownership: schematic capture, PCB design/layout oversight, cabling/harnessing, component selection, documentation and support of QA V&V and production release activities.Practical prototyping experience with hands-on fabrication and assembly of prototype CBs, wiring harnesses, and test fixtures to support feasibility evaluations.Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/productisation experience, including PCB layout trade-offs, electromechanical integration, tolerance stack-up awareness, and collaboration with contract manufacturers and suppliers.Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, electronic loads, etc.); ability to isolate board-level issues to component level.Wire harness design and documentation experience, including connectors, terminals, wire gauge selection, and heat shrink/strain relief practices.Battery system experience with Lead Acid and Lithium-ion, with knowledge of emerging chemistries; strong understanding of BMS hardware and charging systems.Experience implementing designs under regulatory guidelinesSystem-level thinking: capable of balancing size, weight, power, and thermal constraints while collaborating across mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams.Desired SkillsProficiency in PCB Layout (schematic capture and guiding PCB layout) for new product development, preferably with Altium Designer.Knowledge of general radiography and fluoroscopy, theory of operation and key system components.Familiarity with safety standards IEC 60601 2 54 (X-ray equipment for radiography and radioscopy) and IEC 60601 243 (X-ray equipment for interventional procedures). Background in motion control, including selection and integration of stepper, servo, or BLDC motors; experience with motor driver circuits; encoder feedback; and closed-loop control for precise motion/positioning.Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio for Electrical drawings and documentation.Practical soldering skills down to 0402 package size (rework and prototype builds).Familiarity with wireless technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi Fi) as applied to embedded/medical systems.Work Environment: Rochester Office, Lab, and HomePhysical RequirementsStanding: 1-25%Walking: 1-25%Sitting: 51-75%Bending: 1-25%Lifting up to 20 pounds: 1-25%Lifting 20-35 pounds: 1-25%Carrying, Pushing or Pulling: 1-25%TravelDomestic and international travel to supplier and customer sites may be required.1-2 weeks annuallyFeatured benefitsMedical insurance, Vision insurance, Dental insurance, 401(k),Disability insurance
