Lead Software Developer
About the Role
We're a small, software-driven company looking for an experienced, hands-on developer to lead our development work and a small team. This is a development-first role: you'll spend most of your time writing and shipping code, with team leadership as an important secondary responsibility.
Our business runs on dozens of bespoke integrations and custom applications used by both our clients and our internal teams. You'll own the day-to-day work that keeps those systems moving — building new features, fulfilling change requests, and resolving issues — while guiding two developers who work alongside you.
Because our work is highly specialized, there's a real learning curve to the domain. We're looking for someone who's excited to invest in understanding it deeply and, over time, grow into a technical architecture role.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and maintain custom applications, integrations, and internal tools using C#, .NET, and Node.js/JavaScript
Handle the day-to-day development workload — new features, enhancements, change requests, and bug fixes — and keep delivery on pace
Lead and mentor a small team of two developers, supporting their growth and reviewing their work
Collaborate with leadership on technical direction, and grow into ownership of architecture over time
Take real ownership of the systems you work on, from implementation through to reliable delivery
What We're Looking For
~10 years of professional software development experience
Strong, current expertise in C# and .NET
Solid experience with ASP.NET, including both web (MVC/Razor) and Web API development
Proficiency with Node.js and JavaScript
Comfortable working day-to-day in Visual Studio
A track record of shipping production software and owning it end to end
Someone who thrives in a small-business environment — comfortable wearing multiple hats, working directly with decision-makers, and moving quickly without heavy process
Nice to Have
Experience mentoring or leading other developers
Interest in and aptitude for growing into a software architecture role
A genuine appetite for learning a specialized business domain in depth
You'll Be Successful If
You're self-directed and comfortable getting up to speed with limited hand-holding — you figure things out and take initiative
You take genuine ownership of the systems you work on, seeing problems through to reliable solutions rather than handing them off
You're pragmatic — you ship working software and thrive in a fast-moving environment without heavy process
You balance hands-on coding with lifting up the team, mentoring the developers around you as you go
You're patient and curious about learning a specialized business domain deeply, and you see mastering it as an asset rather than a chore
You think beyond the immediate task and are motivated to grow into broader technical ownership over time
Why Join Us
You'll have direct impact and real ownership from day one, work closely with leadership rather than through layers of management, and have a clear path to grow into architecture. We're a small company that values people who are good at what they do — and we're prepared to compensate the right person accordingly.
