Bakery/Deli Associate
As a part of the Hansen’s IGA Market team, the Deli/Bakery Associate is responsible for delivering “best in class” customer service to all guests at the Deli/Bakery counter and on the sales floor. The responsibilities of the Deli/Bakery Associate are to weigh, package, and price items bakery products as well as products from the deli cold case and slice meats and cheeses using the deli slicer. The Deli/Bakery Associate may also prepare the daily salad bar, various deli salads, dip selections based on pre-established recipes. The Deli/Bakery Associate will also assist in miscellaneous duties, such as, but not limited to, filling the deli and bakery case and salad bar when it gets low, maintaining the back coolers and cleaning.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serve customers in the Deli/Bakery Department while modeling Hansen’s IGA Market culture and providing “best in class” customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business
Slicing meats and cheeses using the deli slicer
Weigh, package, price and label Deli and Bakery items
Assist customers with answering questions and making recommendations
Take and fulfill customer orders via phone and in person
Prepare salad bar items, various deli salads, pizzas, sandwiches/wraps, and dips according to the daily production schedule
Assist with maintaining the back cooler including rotating stock, dating and cleaning
Assist Deli/Bakery Department with stocking, rotating and facing the Deli/Bakery department
Assist Deli Cook with minimal food preparation
Maintain sanitation and temperature logs as needed
Operate, maintain and clean deli equipment including knives, ovens, fryers, dishwashers, coolers and slicers
Assist with the training and mentoring of new associates in the Deli/Bakery Department
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures
Assist with all other Deli/Bakery Department duties as needed
Required Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Deli/Bakery equipment
Eagerness to interact with customers
Strong sense of team – ability to anticipate the needs of the team
Ability to work at a fast pace and efficient manner
Ability to take initiative and make decisions independently regarding department needs and priorities, under general supervision
Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills
Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, push/pull for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Work Conditions
Work primarily takes place in the deli and backroom areas, including coolers and freezers.
Regular exposure to varying temperatures and equipment.
Frequent interaction with customers and team members.
Physical tasks include lifting, reaching, stocking, and standing for extended periods.
