Mechanical Engineer

Spectral Evolution, a manufacturer of portable spectral measurement instruments, seeks a hands‑on Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of design experience. Core Responsibilities: Design & Prototype o Compile customer requirements for new product development o Work with Electrical and Applications Engineers to design electro‑optical‑mechanical systems and accessories o Prototype, assemble, and test custom solutions and beta builds of instruments and accessories o Design packaging for spectroscopic instrumentation and accessories o Create and update 3D models and drawings of machined parts o Create and tolerance drawings for optical mounts, systems, and custom optical components Production o Use revision control to release parts and assemblies to the production team o Generate BOMs, assembly documentation, and test procedures o Support the production team as needed Troubleshoot o Troubleshoot and rework non-compliant assemblies o Identify production bottlenecks o Design procedures and fixtures to aid in product assembly o Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical and optical components and systems Qualifications: Demonstrated 3‑D modeling expertise (Primarily Onshape; SolidWorks maintained for legacy products) Experience designing housings for electro‑optical systems using aluminum, plastics, and other materials Experience with 3‑D printing for rapid prototyping (In-house SLA printer) Machine shop experience to rework and prototype parts (Manual mill, lathe, and hand tools) Work with glues and epoxies Experience with thermal analysis and product testing Nice to Have: Experience with Zemax or other optical modeling software Experience and/or interest in spectroscopy This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, good communication skills, a proven ability to meet deadlines, and the capability to work independently and within a team environment.
