On-Call PRN Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary RN On-Call (PRN) Nurse who can cover shifts and time frames for the RN. This position could obtain up to 8 weeks of on-call work per year. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide quality nursing care to all clients and residents. Assist with all health care policies, procedures, and services Teach the Medication Administration classes and provide/supervise clinical training for Habilitation Techs and Medication Techs. Supervise LPN and Transporter positions Perform monthly Quality Assurance checks of all houses med rooms and review each Medication Administration Record (MAR). Participate in assessing daily health care and medical care needs of clients, including the following: 1) Daily Rounds to assess and evaluate care; 2) Determine nursing care needs based upon collection and interpretation of client health data. Assists in planning needed care for clients: a) participation in making decisions regarding implementation of nursing intervention and medical orders and plan of care; b) participation in multi-disciplinary planning by providing resource data; c) identification of nursing interventions Respond appropriately in cases of emergency. Keep parents, physician, and related personnel informed concerning client health needs, problems, and progress. Provide input into nursing programmatic policies and procedures. Assist QI Director/QDDP in keeping comprehensive and accurate nursing-related records and keep records up-to-date to meet all local, state, and federal laws, and ICF/IDD regulations. Assist in determining equipment and supply needs and keep equipment in good repair and sanitary condition. Keep supervisor informed of related needs, problems and recommendations pertinent to client care and health. Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team as needed and attend annual Habilitation plan meetings for residents. Participate in on-call system per agency policy. Assist in orientation and training of new staff in the areas of health care issues, roles of the nurse, shift assignments. Participate in resident admissions, transfers, and discharges. Give direct care as needed. Monitor direct care staff for compliance with infection control measures. Other duties as assigned. Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform related assigned nursing tasks, i.e. stocking supplies, ordering, cleaning work area as indicated and complete within an acceptable time frame. Attend staff meetings. Education/Training Current North Carolina Registered Nurse License. Must adhere to all ethical standards as set forth by the Board of Nursing and IWC Code of Ethics. Necessary Special Qualifications Must maintain valid North Carolina Driver’s License Special Skills/Abilities Must maintain current CPR and NCI Certification. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to record basic data and document observations, events and medications. Ability to communicate with other staff and members of the community.
