Job SummaryThe Traveling Lead Data Center Technician serves as the onsite lead for assigned installation crews while actively participating in structured cabling and fiber infrastructure projects. This role combines advanced technical expertise in fiber installation, splicing, testing, and data center buildouts with team supervision and project coordination. The Lead Technician ensures all installations are completed according to quality and safety standards while supervising crew productivity and efficiency. This position requires extended travel to project sites and the ability to support both short- and long-term data center construction assignments.Job ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise installation crews of 5–15 technicians on structured cabling and fiber infrastructure projectsTake direction from project leadership and translate scope requirements into daily work assignmentsAct as a hands-on working lead while overseeing assigned portions of the project scopeInstall cable infrastructure and perform fiber rough-in in data center environmentsTerminate copper and fiber cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fiberPerform ribbon and fusion splicing using appropriate equipmentConduct fiber testing using industry-standard tools, including Fluke and OTDR testing equipmentRack and stack equipment and assist with server rack buildouts and rack elevationsInstall fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, power trays, and cable management systemsSupport Outside Plant (OSP) fiber installations into data center environmentsRead and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentationMonitor onsite materials and confirm daily material usageConduct daily stretch and flex meetings and reinforce safe work practicesEnsure accurate daily time reporting and completion of required documentationConduct daily jobsite walks to monitor safety, quality, and productionIdentify and stop unsafe work practices and correct improper installationsLead end-of-day team meetings to review production progress, project challenges, and next-day planningProvide project updates, constraints, and change requirements to project leadershipEnforce OSHA standards, proper PPE usage, and all safety policiesJob RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED requiredMinimum three years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical fieldMinimum five years of fiber installation experience, including splicing and terminationMinimum six months of supervisory or team leadership experienceProven ability to lead crews of 5–15 team membersDemonstrated ability to terminate fiber and troubleshoot infrastructure systemsAbility to interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality documentationKnowledge of universal communications color codesProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and ProjectExperience with Microsoft Teams, Adobe, and Bluebeam preferredValid driver license and ability to meet driving requirementsAbility to work at heights, on ladders and lifts, and in confined spacesAbility to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 poundsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods during shiftsWillingness to travel for extended project assignments and work flexible schedulesAbility to provide and use required hand tools and personal protective equipment (PPE)Work ExperienceExperience in colocation and new construction data center environmentsExperience supporting structured cabling and fiber infrastructure deployments in active construction environmentsExperience supporting large-scale rack deployments and fiber infrastructure buildoutsExperience working on projects lasting multiple months, including extended deployment schedulesBenefitsHealth insuranceDental insuranceVision insurance401(k)$50 per diem during travel assignmentsTravel and lodging provided for project assignments
