Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS EC2 Hyperplane
Overview
In this role you will design and build the Hyperplane network virtualization platform powering EC2 at massive scale. You will work with a cross-functional, fast-paced team to deliver low-latency, high-throughput distributed services that support customer-facing features and internal AWS workloads. You’ll own substantial parts of the architecture, mentor others, and push for operational excellence in a critical systems domain. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape scalable infrastructure used by millions of customers and to impact cloud compute at global scale.

ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain highly scalable distributed systems powering AWS EC2 network virtualization infrastructure to ensure low latency and high throughput for millions of workloadsLead technical design and architecture decisions for core Hyperplane components (packet processing, policy enforcement, traffic management)Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance to raise engineering standardsCollaborate with network engineering, security, and product management to deliver customer-facing features and improvementsProfile, benchmark, and optimize system performance to meet stringent latency and throughput targetsParticipate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot complex production issues, and drive reliability initiativesContribute to long-term technical strategy and roadmap planning for architectural improvementsWrite high-quality, maintainable code in C++, Rust, or Java with solid testing, documentation, and deployment practices
