Head of Core Engineering

How do you build a unified data model that connects bitcoin hashrate to hurricane wind speeds to private credit exposures, all inside a single platform?That is the engineering problem.Our client, a $50B+ alternative investment manager in New York, is looking for a hands-on MD-level Head of Core Engineering to design and build this from the ground up.This is not a management role with a technical title. They are seeking someone with the seniority, communication and leadership skills of a Managing Director who is also able and willing to be hands on in the architecture, design, engineering and coding of a new cross-asset alternatives investment technology platform.The firm has tripled the size of their technology group in recent years, and technology is the single largest function in the organization. This is not a support function. It is the core of the firm.The mission is to design and build a Data Topology that creates a unified framework for assets that do not fit in boxes. You will be connecting the dots between digital assets, reinsurance risk layers, private markets, and more traditional holdings into a single, elegant platform. There is little to no bureaucracy here and a genuine chance to build something new alongside a small team of their best engineers.You will lead a team of 5-6 engineers initially, with a mandate to grow and hold one of the most senior roles in this 150+ person tech org.RequirementsExperience at top-tier investment banks, hedge funds, or systematic trading firmsExperience working on the development and architecture of platforms such as SecDB, Athena, Quartz or similarDomain expertise in the alternatives space: real estate, private markets, digital assets, insurance-linked strategiesExperience building security masters for cross-asset platformsExperience building unified data platformsComfortable operating with high autonomy in a flat organization where you are expected to drive decisions, not wait for themTotal compensation will be equivalent to MD-level comp packages on the street.This position is on-site in New York - 5 days a week.
