Digital Communications SpecialistLocation: Austin, TXDepartment: Enterprise Technology – Vice President and Office of CIOWeekly Hours: 40Status: ExemptStart Date: Immediately – fixed term until Apr 09, 2027Work Environment: Hybrid – remote within the US, preference for Austin area; occasional on-site events.Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States.PurposeThe Communications Specialist supports the strategic promotion and visibility of Enterprise Technology services, initiatives, and priorities through integrated, multi-channel marketing and communications efforts. The role develops and delivers compelling digital, social, visual, and multimedia content that advances organizational goals, engages key audiences, and supports awareness, adoption, and participation across the UT community.ResponsibilitiesDigital & Social Media CommunicationsPlan, write, design, and distribute internal and external newsletters.Coordinate content development, editorial review, and publishing schedules.Maintain a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across recurring communications.Support integrated communication campaigns by executing content plans in partnership with the broader communications team.Podcast & Emerging Media SupportSupport planning and production of organizational podcasts, including scheduling, guest coordination, and preparation of show notes.Assist with basic audio editing, publishing, and promotional support.Collaborate with subject-matter experts to shape episode themes and storytelling approaches.Collaboration & CoordinationWork closely with communications colleagues, designers, and stakeholders to translate ideas into clear, engaging digital content.Support cross-functional initiatives by contributing communications assets and execution support.Maintain strong working relationships with campus partners to ensure coordinated, effective messaging.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, multimedia production, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.Demonstrated experience in digital communications, social media management, and content creation.Hands-on experience with photography, video recording, and video editing.Strong writing and editing skills for digital and social platforms.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsExperience in IT communications, higher education, or technical environments.Familiarity with content-management systems, newsletter platforms, and social media scheduling tools.Experience supporting or producing podcast or audio content.Portfolio demonstrating social media campaigns, photography, video, or multimedia storytelling.Key CompetenciesDigital and visual storytellingEditorial judgment and attention to detailCreativity balanced with brand consistencyCollaboration and relationship-buildingAdaptability in a fast-paced communications environmentSalary Range$45,900 + depending on qualifications.Working ConditionsHybrid work environment—combination of on-site and remote work; residence in or ability to commute to Austin, Texas.Repetitive use of keyboard and creative software tools.Occasional lifting of equipment (up to 25 pounds) for photography or video needs.Work ShiftMonday – Friday, flexible between 7 am – 6 pm.Required MaterialsResume/CVThree work references with contact information; at least one reference from a supervisor.Letter of interest.Important for Applicants Who Are Not Current University Employees Or Contingent WorkersYou will be prompted to submit your resume the first time you apply, then you will have the option to upload a new resume for subsequent applications.
