Application Software Engineer/Thread Test Developer (US Citizenship Required)
Overview
Join our innovative team as an Application Software Engineer and Thread Test Developer, where you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and executing comprehensive testing strategies for complex software applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge mobile and web-based platforms, ensuring the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product stability, optimize performance, and deliver seamless user experiences across Android, iOS, and web environments. Your expertise will drive continuous improvement in our testing frameworks and automation processes, making a tangible impact on our software solutions.
Responsibilities
Thread Test Developer: Design, implement, maintain, and evolve the automated test suite for the assigned operational thread. Each Test Developer contributes to creating automated test scenarios directly derived from thread acceptance criteria, writing and maintaining automated test code, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, triaging failures, and identifying whether defects stem from test issues or system defects.
Given the program’s continuous integration environment and the requirement to test SIGINT ground processing capabilities with frequent software drops and high-complexity interfaces, the volume of automated test development and maintenance is significant and ongoing.
Thread Integrator: Integration engineering support is required to assemble and configuration-control the integrated baseline of subsystem software, data sets, and automated tests across all sprints. The Thread Integrator performs test execution, captures and organizes verification evidence, manages the defect life cycle (including triage, routing, tracking, and closure verification), and collaborates directly with Test Developers to identify and distinguish system defects from test defects.
Continuous integration events occur throughout the program, and each build requires environment preparation, system assembly, execution of regression and new-capability tests, analysis of failures, root-cause participation, and reporting of results. The Integrator also ensures alignment with external programs, maintains traceability to acceptance criteria, and updates integration workflows as new capabilities are introduced.
Automated tests must be continuously updated to reflect updated ICDs, new acceptance criteria, evolving simulator data, and changes to subsystem behavior.
Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools such as TestNG, Selenium, JUnit, and Cucumber to ensure robust test coverage for mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms.
Design and execute functional, system, performance, load, and user acceptance tests to validate software quality across diverse environments.
Create detailed test cases based on business requirements and technical specifications; perform thorough test case design and review processes.
Implement and manage test automation frameworks integrating CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and TFS to streamline testing workflows.
Conduct root cause analysis for defects identified during testing phases; collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot issues using debugging tools and SQL queries.
Perform API testing for RESTful web services using tools such as Postman or SOAP UI; validate data integrity with MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, or DB2 databases.
Participate in Agile software development cycles by contributing to requirements gathering, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups; utilize Jira or HP ALM for defect tracking and test management.
Support system integration testing involving service-oriented architecture (SOA), web services (SOAP/REST), and MVC frameworks; ensure compatibility across operating systems including Windows and Linux.
Engage in performance testing using LoadRunner or similar tools to evaluate system scalability; analyze results to recommend improvements.
Contribute to quality assurance initiatives by developing comprehensive QA test plans, executing QA/QC procedures, and ensuring adherence to SDLC standards.
Experience
Proven experience in software testing within IT environments with a strong focus on mobile applications for Android and iOS platforms.
Hands-on expertise in automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, Cucumber (BDD), and scripting languages like Python or Bash (Unix shell).
Solid understanding of API testing methodologies for RESTful services; familiarity with JSON/XML data formats is essential.
Experience working with version control systems including GitHub, GitLab, SVN or TFS; knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or Azure DevOps is highly desirable.
Knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB or DB2; ability to perform data analysis skills for troubleshooting issues.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies including Scrum or Kanban; experience with defect tracking tools like Jira or HP ALM is preferred.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis; excellent debugging skills are essential for identifying issues efficiently.
Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) processes including requirements gathering, design review, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Technical support experience related to software troubleshooting within complex system environments is a plus.
