Solutions Database Architect

The Solutions Database Architect designs the overall system and data architecture for a modernized sampling information platform built on a service-oriented, cloud-native architecture, ensuring scalable, secure, and compliant integration with enterprise and Lakehouse systems, and leads architecture reviews to keep the effort aligned with the program's modernization roadmap. *Key Responsibilities* * Design the overall system architecture for the modernized sampling information platform and any associated AI/data pilots. * Ensure integration with enterprise platform services and Lakehouse architecture (e.g., Databricks or Snowflake). * Define security, compliance, and scalability standards for the modernized architecture. * Lead architecture reviews and maintain architecture documentation. * Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. * Define and oversee implementation of security and compliance controls, including encryption, RBAC, and audit logging. * Engage with stakeholders to communicate architectural decisions and modernization progress. *Required Qualifications & Skills* * Minimum 10 years of experience in IT architecture roles, with at least 3 years focused on cloud-based solutions. * Proven experience designing enterprise-scale architectures for AI/ML platforms or data-intensive applications. * Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks and data governance standards. * Expertise in cloud platforms (Azure preferred), including networking, security, and identity management. * Strong knowledge of Lakehouse architecture systems such as Databricks or Snowflake, and integration with enterprise systems. * Proficiency in API design, microservices, and containerization (Docker). * Understanding of data pipelines, orchestration tools, and FAIR principles. * Strong documentation and communication skills for stakeholder engagement. *Security & Eligibility Requirements* * Must comply with HSPD-12 and FIPS PUB 201 personal identity verification (PIV) requirements for federal contractor personnel. * Subject to a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) or higher-level background investigation as designated for the position, and must be cleared prior to accessing sensitive NASS data. * Required to sign a NASS confidentiality certification / non-disclosure agreement prior to accessing NASS systems, databases, or data files. * Must complete annual USDA Information Security Awareness (ISA) and Rules of Behavior (ROB) training. * Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident ("green card" holder).
