JOB DESCRIPTION:The Principal Platform Engineer is a z/OS operating system storage architect.This position requires the individual to be able to work independently, provide project leadership, and provide high-level expertise as related to projects and areas of responsibility within Data Resource Management and Mainframe Performance. RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for all aspects of mainframe storage management. This includes researching, architecting, installing, networking, programming, maintaining, administrating, operating, and monitoring all storage-related hardware and software associated with storage for the enterprise. May also supervise installation and configuration.Responsible for customer/user interfacing, storage allocations, day-to-day operations, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution as it relates to the storage environment.Additional responsibilities include understanding Z/OS internals, SAS/MICS.MXG, Thruput Manager and Work Load AnalyzerCollaborate with various stakeholder groups and team members to design and validate storage solutions that meet DTCC standards for security, resiliency, and reusabilityLead immediate support for production issues related to areas of expertiseAuthor system documentation and supporting documents to ensure transparency of design to minimize future maintenance costsDeliver targeted business outcomes by participating in the technical decision-making processAnalyze changing business requirements to determine impact and optimal solution regarding defining the future state technical architectureFollow established DTCC requirements, principles and models that guide technology decisions for the enterprise (best practices)Applies knowledge of technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to contribute to the decision-making processMonitor metrics to ensure system performance meets requirementsDirect and facilitates the research, evaluation, and selection of software/hardware technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations.Mitigates risk by following established procedures and monitoring controls, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behavior. QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of 8 years of related experienceBachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experienceStrong knowledge of z/OS internals, software, and hardware architecture, including strong problem diagnosis skills.Strong understanding of many of the following storage hardware technologies: EMC Symmetrix (including its replication features), EMC, Brocade DCX, IBM TS7700.Strong understanding of many of the following storage software technologies: DFSMS (including SMS ACS code and constructs), DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, CA-1, CR Plus, IBM utilitiesKnowledge of the following would be a plus: SQL, Assembler, COBOL, DTS Software ACC and SRS products, RACFREXX/SAS/MICS/MXG programming skillsKnowledge of Performance tools MainviewSoftware installs SMP/EExcellent project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple responsible groups and request processes in parallel, so that complex projects can move ahead expeditiously.Strong familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.Serves as a trusted coach or mentor within the organization.Communicates openly keeping everyone across the organization informed.
