DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead a team responsible for delivering high-quality bookkeeping and tax services to a portfolio of small business clients in the funeral industry. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with people leadership, workflow management, and a strong commitment to client service. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, confident in managing multiple deadlines, and comfortable guiding both staff and clients through complex financial matters with clarity and professionalism. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Team Leadership & OperationsSupervise, mentor, and develop a team of bookkeepers and tax professionals.Oversee daily workflow, ensuring timely and accurate completion of client deliverables.Review staff work for quality, compliance, and adherence to internal standards.Provide ongoing training on accounting best practices, industry nuances, and regulatory updates. Client ManagementServe as the primary point of contact for assigned funeral home clients.Build strong, trust-based relationships by understanding each client's business model, operational challenges, and financial goals.Communicate financial insights, tax implications, and recommended actions in a clear, accessible way.Manage onboarding for new clients, ensuring smooth transitions and accurate setup of accounting systems. Accounting & Tax OversightReview monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Oversee general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, payroll entries, and other core bookkeeping functions.Manage preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings for small business entities.Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements.Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best-practice workflows. Strategic & Administrative ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with leadership to refine service offerings and improve operational efficiency.Assist with capacity planning, resource allocation, and performance evaluations.Support technology adoption, including accounting software, workflow tools, and client portals.Monitor key performance indicators related to client satisfaction, team productivity, and financial accuracy. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an indoor office environment, free from extreme weather conditions. Work may include a moderate amount of noise (business office with computers, phone and printers) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to quickly and thoroughly learn new softwareMust have excellent organizational and time management skillsAttention to detail, ability to self-review and take directionMust have the ability to communicate with clients and coworkers via email and phone in a professional mannerWillingness to learn and take responsibility for work product is essential TRAINING, ACADEMIC AND EXPERIENTIAL REQURIEMENTS:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; EA or CPA required.5+ years of accounting experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities.Strong understanding of small business accounting, tax preparation, and financial reporting.Experience working with service-based businesses; funeral industry experience is a plus but not required.Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office tools.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-accountants.High level of professionalism, discretion, and empathy when working with clients in the funeral profession.
