Teaching Artist
ASAP! Summer Camp is about play, exploration, and trying new things. We are seeking teaching artists to lead visual, culinary, performing arts, and nature activities. You will work alongside staff and counselors to create a safe and joyful experience for campers. Prior to camp, you will submit an age-appropriate curriculum plan that builds in structure, skill-building, and exploration of themes and/or art materials. Teaching artists teach (4) 1-hour classes per day for groups of 12 campers ages 6-16. ASAP! staff provides support during curriculum development and throughout camp with the goal of creating a cohesive experience for campers and staff.
ASAP! is an arts-infused education organization providing year-round programming in-school, after-school, and throughout the summer. ASAP! Summer Camp has been a trusted part of our community for 26 years, and draws diverse youth in grades 1-10 from across Northwest CT. Our staff creates an environment where young people feel safe to experiment, build friendships, and develop confidence in their abilities.

Dates:
April 21, 5:15 pm-6 pm: Virtual Meeting
July 7, 4 pm-5pm: Virtual Meeting
Aug 2, 10 am-3 pm: In-person team building and set up
Aug 3-14 - 8:30 am-3:10 pm: Camp dates (Mon-Fri only)
Responsibilities
Build and share curricula with ASAP! team one month in advance, including project goals, learning objectives, and daily activities/plans, in alignment with ASAP! approach
Prepare supplies and equipment needed for your class
Arrange your teaching space for your needs
Teach (4) 1-hour classes per day (12 students per class)
Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible classroom space for campers
Communicate clearly with counselors about class and camper needs during your class
Communicate clearly with staff about any needs or support outside of class time

Maintaining a calm, caring classroom environment for groups of 12
Approaching campers with kindness and curiosity
Attending to campers’ individual needs and calling on support from counselors when needed
Recognizing how diverse positionalities and life experiences can contribute to a camper’s daily experience
Qualifications
Ability to attend virtual meetings and an on-site teambuilding session prior to camp starting
At least 2 years of teaching experience working with children in grades 1-10
Pass the CT OEC background check
Reliable transportation to and from camp location in Washington, CT
Pay
Based on experience, starts at $200/day
