At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Systems Engineer Advisor you will help manage design of server and application architectures. You will manage the administrative operation and maintenance of server hardware and software. You will maintain system security and establish practices and procedures, monitor usage statistics and logs, monitor and remedy attempts to penetrate or corrupt server files. You will develop baseline configurations and direct modification of configuration settings. You will develop troubleshooting and incident response procedures, troubleshoot system‑related problems, provide team leadership and guidance to less experienced administrators, stay current in operating systems/software analysis and technology developments and applications, recommend future directions or projects to management, and provide expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance an operating system.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Experience with server virtualization (VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V)
ITIL v3 Foundation certification preferred
Has full technical knowledge of all phases of systems engineering
Excellent communication skills; shows tact, effective listening skills, and follow through
Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers with less experience; creation of effective user manuals
Detail oriented and organized; able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work
May review the work of others and be able to detect errors or needed modifications
Able to identify and resolve problems or inadequacies of systems engineering
Required Experience
5+ years of related experience
Required Technical Skills
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory administration and Windows Server platforms (2016, 2019, 2022)
Experience with PowerShell scripting and systems automation
Experience performing troubleshooting for technicians and/or end users utilizing ServiceNow ticketing system
Strong experience with server virtualization (VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V)
Participate in project planning and management, providing technical guidance and expertise as needed.
Security Clearance Level
Active Secret clearance required to start and must be able to obtain TS/SCI
Required Skills and Abilities
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences and influence cross‑functionally.
Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities.
Excellent communication and briefing skills; shows tact, effective listening skills, and follow through.
Experience in creating effective technical documentation.
Detail oriented and organized; able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work.
Preferred Skills
Ability to multi‑task as well as be strategic, creative, and innovative in a dynamic, fast‑paced matrix team environment.
Stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in MECM and related systems and provide recommendations for future improvements.
