Municipal Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Municipal Civil Engineer to join a dynamic in-house village engineering team at a major municipality in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. The role will be full time onsite reporting directly to the Village Engineer at our client’s Village Hall.Essential FunctionsPrepare plans, specifications and bid documents for various infrastructure projectsOversee the Village’s MFT programPerform construction oversight and administration and assure conformance with plans and specifications, advising appropriate personnel of variances needing correctionInteract with residents of the Village to respond to inquiries and aid in developing solutions related to their concernsMaintain detailed project documentationConduct site investigationsProvide analyses for technical reports and grantsAssist with the budgetary planning process and provide technical expertise and analysis for the Capital Improvement ProgramAssist with the management of outside regulatory agency permits and coordinate with such agenciesProvide technical support in various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specificationsDevelop memorandums and other written technical documentsAssist with review plans, specifications, and bid packagesSupport projects by attending meetings and interacting with agency officials and contractorsPerform additional responsibilities as required by Village needsEducation/ExperienceB.S. in civil engineering or related field (ABET/EAC-accredited program)6+ years of applicable municipal engineering experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) Licensure RequiredKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesDemonstrates ability to successfully engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment; communicates effectively and builds relationships and trust internally and externallyExercises sound engineering judgmentStrong ability to convey information through effective and timely verbal and written communicationHigh level of proficiency with computer-aided design software and other software packages typically associated with engineering required Strong proficiency in general documentation software such as Microsoft Suite, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, etc.Ability to manage smaller projects for the department, effectively leveraging experience and skills on increasingly complex assignmentsEffective public speaking, presentation, and leadership skillsDemonstrates understanding of industry and construction practices, methodologies, and best engineering practicesEffectively maintains office and field health & safety requirements and protocolsMaintains a work schedule conducive to team collaboration and project-specific requirementsMust have a valid driver’s licensePhysical RequirementsInvolves sitting a considerable amount of the time, but requires the ability to conduct field/site visits to inspect workMay exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to move objectsOccasionally lifts and carries up to 25 poundsConsiderable time is spent at a workstation using a computer and using various forms of communication (telephone, email, messaging, etc.)Field work includes exposure to outside weather conditions and various environmental conditions depending on the sitePhysical activities include walking and occasional stooping and crouchingThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties and/or responsibilities required of the employee for this position.
