Web Applications Developer
Overview:
As the Digital Commerce Engineer, you will be the primary technical authority for the Daniel Defense.com ecommerce platform. You will own the Magento Open Source storefront, platform administration, and site reliability, collaborating with external partners to deliver high-performance ecommerce experiences. You will work hands-on across frontend and backend development, integrations, and infrastructure, shaping a scalable, compliant online store that serves military, law enforcement, and civilian customers. This role combines development, operations, and technical leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the Magento Open Source storefront (themes, templates, layout XML, front-end components)
- Own the Three.js 3D product experience and ensure production performance
- Administer Magento platform (promotions, users, stores, API access) and coordinate checkout/settings
- Manage platform infrastructure (servers, caching, deployments, security, staging) and edge delivery (Cloudflare, CloudFront, S3)
- Oversee integrations with email, ERP, shipping, tax, fraud, and other systems via REST, GraphQL, and webhooks
- Lead external Magento development partners, scope projects, review code, and ensure quality
- Implement analytics and experimentation (GA4, Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Optimizely)
- Ensure firearms commerce compliance (age-verification, FFL routing, PCI DSS, OneTrust)
- Support performance, incident response, runbooks, and disaster recovery
- Maintain documentation and runbooks; drive site performance and reliability
- Monitor and improve Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) and full-page caching
- Manage CI/CD, Git workflows, and production issue investigation
Key requirements:
- 2+ years in ecommerce with hands-on Magento Open Source experience preferred
- Strong JavaScript, HTML5, CSS/SCSS; front-end production code in legacy and modern frameworks
- Experience administering ecommerce platforms (promotions, users, payments, checkout)
- Linux command line proficiency; AWS experience required
- Experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks; API credentials managementCDN/edge platform experience (Cloudflare, CloudFront)
- Analytics tagging and ecommerce event tracking experience
- Server-side development experience; PHP preferred; Node/Python/Ruby/C# transferable
- Self-directed, remote-team collaboration; comfortable with firearms ecommerce regulatory complexity
- Bachelor in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
