District Office/Press Aide Intern

This position is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in public affairs, communications, media, or government service who want real, applied experience in a high-energy, team-oriented environment.BASIC FUNCTIONS:In a learner capacity and under the direct supervision of the District Director and Communications staff, the Office / Press Aide Intern will support day-to-day office operations and assist with press and digital communications. Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced professional setting.DUTIES:In a learner capacity and under direct supervision, duties may include but are not limited to:Assisting with general office and administrative supportSupporting press and communications efforts, including:Editing short video clips for social mediaCreating graphics and visual contentDrafting, scheduling, and posting content on social media platformsAssisting with newsletters, press materials, and digital outreachAssisting with drafting news releases and media materialsMaking recommendations for updates to content on the Senator's state website and social media accounts, including Facebook, including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other digital platforms as determined by the office. Distributing daily media clips and relevant news stories of interestUsing design and editing tools such as Canva, Cap Cut and audio editors.Helping track media coverage and organize communications filesAssisting with event preparation, photo and video capture, and content collectionSupporting constituent services and casework as needed EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School Degree required.Bachelor's degree preferred.The ideal candidate is a voracious reader and consumer of news and wants to sharpen their understanding of the news cycle. Communications, journalism, public affairs, or public policy undergrad student or graduate student preferred. Interest in public policy and the Legislature is a plus. Must be comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and various web browsers and news sites.NOTE TO HIRING OFFICE: Please confirm whether the Intern will be required to drive as part of their Senate duties. If no, we will remove it.Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. NOTE: Information from your driving record will be shared with the hiring supervisor which may impact your hiring status.LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:This position is located in Fremont, CA and requires in person attendance .The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
